Eating well

There are many reasons why eating healthily is essential, eating a nutritious diet will prevent the developing of diseases like obesity, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. In addition, eating well has an impact on your mental health, while staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic, it is vital to be mindful of what you are putting in your body.

It is imperative that you do not skip meals and eat regularly. When you skip meals, your blood sugar drops, and it can make you feel tired, irritable or depressed. If possible, try sticking to foods that release energy slowly such as complex carbohydrates, examples are oats, whole grains, pasta, bread and cereals.

You must include fats in your diet, by fat we mean good fat such as Omega 3 and 6 which your brain needs to function well. You can get these oils from eating chicken, fish, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, avocado, eggs, milk, yoghurt and cheese.

As part of your balanced diet, it is important to include protein. Protein has amino acids, which facilitate the creation of chemicals that your brain needs to regulate your thoughts and emotions. Examples of protein-rich foods are lean meat, fish eggs, peas, beans and lentils.

You must also drink lots of water! Drinking water will help you concentrate, clear your skin and boost your energy levels.
